Austin United Capitals SC and Lonestar SC are delighted to announce that that our Directors of Coaching and Executive Boards have agreed to terms of a Merger. This merger, pending final approval, would see our cities two most successful youth soccer clubs come together with the common goal of providing a full service youth soccer club aimed at improving the services provided to current AUCSC and LSC members.
We strongly and unanimously support this proposed merger, and feel that it is in the best interest of the players and members of both clubs for the following reasons:
- The ability to align with and further strengthen an exceptionally well run and nationally recognized youth soccer club.
- Improved opportunities for pre-season play, cross club friendlies, and other forms of high caliber select play at very low cost.
- Improved opportunity for college player placement by expanding the LSC network of college coach contacts and programs.
- Cross club play and cost sharing opportunities between the AU, Westlake, CCU and Town & Country recreational programs.
- Increased knowledge base of our combined coaching staffs to provide education and guidance to our volunteer coaches, parents and players.
- Incorporation of the AU Academy teams into the LSC Premier Academy League (with over 70 teams in Austin and San Antonio).
- Increased pool of players for select team formation. This will greatly improve the ability of all teams to have unified rosters of players with the same degree of talent and commitment. This benefits all teams at all levels.
- Unification of City wide soccer tournaments and events. This will increase the draw of regional and national teams and improve the associated revenue and club benefit.
- The demonstrated respect, cooperation and good faith LSC has shown in addressing key issues regarding our members training locality, coaching staff security and local control.
- Dramatically improved economy of scale, which will lower costs for field usage, maintenance, uniforms and other club expenses, while improving sponsorship and marketing/branding opportunities.
In short, the leadership of both AUCSC and LSC recognizes the tremendous benefit this merger opportunity provides to both organizations. It is driven by our common goal to improve what is currently in place for all players, from those playing U4 recreational soccer all the way through to the top national level teams. Our vision is to have one club that provides a proven and trusted pathway for all players, regardless of ability. No matter which path a player follows they will have great fun while being provided with all the resources and support to be successful on that path.
We understand that this proposal will generate questions among our membership. Over the next few weeks there will be meeting opportunities for both AU Capital and Lonestar members to meet with your coach, AUCSC Director of Coaching, Steve Allison and Lonestar SC Executive Director of Soccer Sean Bubb. In addition, communication meetings are being planned for both the AUCSC and LSC membership to meet with club directors and staff so that information behind this merger can be communicated in greater detail.
We truly believe that this is a positive development for youth soccer in Austin. We welcome questions and input as we seek to form the nation’s finest youth soccer program.
Sincerely,
AUCSC Executive Committee & Lonestar Board of Directors Sean Bubb, LSC Executive Director of Soccer Steve Allison, AUCSC Director of Coaching
